KUDUMBAYOGAM
Records show that our forefathers used to hold periodical family meetings even centuries ago and discuss various matters and issues of common interest and resolve them collectively by taking appropriate decisions. But these meetings were either need - based or with long breaks and some times very irregular due to unknown reasons. With the disappearance of undivided family life and the onset of divided and distributed nuclear family life style, the need for and the importance of such Kudumbayogam became paramount.
A decision was taken in 1968 by our senior family members, to revive the Kudumbayogam and make it more meaningful, when they met at Mundolil for the house warming ceremony of a new house, under the leadership of Shri M. M. Mathai Ex. MLA. And ever since its revival in 1968, Maret Shakha yogam is held regularly on the first Sunday of every month at 3 PM. at the residence of a member based on a schedule prepared for this purpose. Shri M. M. Mathai was the patron and the leading light of Maret Kudumbayogam till his death in February 1997. In this context, the services rendered for our Kudumbayogam in various capacities and positions held, by our beloved departed members; Shri A. Maret, Shri M. P. Paul, Shri P. P. Ninan, Shri M. O. Abraham, Shri Alex Maret, Shri Rajan A. Maret, Joemon Mundolil and the like will always be cherished. Kudumbayogam provides an appropriate platform for the young generation to listen to, learn from and look upon, the senior members of the family.
The administrative duties and responsibilities of conducting the Kudumbayogam properly and regularly are vested in an Executive Committee. This forum consisting of a President, a Vice - President, a Secretary, a Joint - Secretary, a Treasurer, an Auditor and a reasonable number of Committee Members are elected every year. A Patron, normally the senior most member of the family will be the supreme head of the Kudumbayogam and this is a life time assignment. All proposals and programs formulated by the committee will be discussed in the monthly Kudumbayogam before it is implemented with or without modification. The annual celebration of the Kudumbayogam is held during the summer vacation, normally in the month of May.
